Despite proclamations that London has the WORST weather, I’ve been lucky to experience some pretty darn sunny days. Case in point: Saturday. Not a cloud in the sky.

I have been obsessed with London’s Monmouth Coffee for more than a year, ever since moving to London for six months and hanging out in my brother and sister-in-law’s old neighborhood on Saturday mornings. Until recently, they lived in Bermondsey, where a handful of small food and drink producers and wholesalers set up shop a block from their place on the weekends. Monmouth roasts their coffee on nearby Maltby Street and opened their doors on Saturdays to sell single-brew coffee and pastries.
I loved everything about the Saturday experience: the strong scent of coffee roasting, the at-once quiet and busy vibe of their shop and production site, sampling their African and Latin American coffees, and sipping my brew on the haphazardly-set-up folding chairs right outside the shop.
So imagine my dismay when I heard both that H&M were moving and that Monmouth was closing Maltby Street on Saturdays. I’m still not over it despite the fact that I’m back in NYC, but this time I was smart enough to visit both their Covent Garden and Borough Market shops so that I could bring some coffee home.

“A ‘Buzz’ in Bermondsey”: One of my favorite spots in London over the weekends. The NY Times just did a slideshow of the area. They left out the tiny, nearby Saturday Maltby Street market and amazing Monmouth Coffee roastery, which I continue to miss greatly from NYC. So far, no new coffee shops I’ve been seeking out in NYC come close. Nice to see the mention of Lovely & British. I purchased earrings there in December and get compliments every single time I wear them. Wish I knew who designed the pair.

A late lunch at one of my favorite local spots, The Garrison, with H&M my last evening in London. That’s my brother and me.
