Parade of the Santas across Spain: Madrid, Sevilla, Toledo

Apart from a few trips over the years to visit cousins in Michigan, I generally don’t travel over Christmas, as my parents live close by.  Last year while I was living in London, I did spend the holidays in Europe: London for Christmas itself, then Ghent and Brugge right after.  The quaint ambience was addicting.  So this year, on Christmas night, I took off for Spain with two friends.  We landed in Madrid the morning after Christmas and were greeted with a beautiful blue sky, though surprisingly few holiday decorations.  After churros and hot chocolate, we set out for a walk, ending up at the peaceful Parque del Retiro, which I first visited in 90+ degree heat nearly 15 years ago.  I much prefer the Spanish winter version!
